Main purpose of this post is just to track rather fast re-introduction of ancient Aether model (possibly under influence of AWT concepts) into mainstream science again by using of online available sources. It means, this list is biased toward AWT concepts and only links to other articles with minimal comments will be presented here and the list will be extended gradually regarding to public proposals:

Note that Einstein Aether theory, which prof. Horava is talking about has nothing to do with particle concept of Rene Descartes, the dense Aether concept of Oliver Lodge in particular - it rather considers Aether as an abstract weak vector field, resulting in dragging momentum.

Please note, luminiferous aether must be very dense environment for to be able to serve as a environment for light spreading, the highly energetic gamma and X-ray radiation in particular. It rather corresponds the idea, vacuum is formed by interior of black hole.

The Mrs. Morgan's lecture is interesting even in the point, most of hers objections against paleobiologists could be applied in 1:1 ratio to community of theoretical physicists with respect to their ignorance of dense aether theory (AWT):
"I mean, it's a terrible thing to happen. You've got this beautiful paradigm. You've believed it through generations. Nobody has questioned it. You've been constructing fanciful things on top of it, relying on it to be as solid as a rock. And now it's whipped away from under you. What do you do? What does a scientist do in that case?
Well, we know the answer because Thomas S. Kuhn wrote a seminal treatise about this back in 1962. He said what scientists do when a paradigm fails, is, guess what, they carry on as if nothing had happened. If they haven't got a paradigm they can't ask the question. So they say, "Yes it's wrong, but supposing it was right ..." And the only other option open to them is to stop asking the questions. So that is what they have done now.
That's why you don't hear them talking about it. It's yesterday's question. Some of them have even elevated it into a principle. It's what we ought to be doing.... I am trying to suggest that, for 40-odd years, this aquatic idea has been miscategorized as lunatic fringe, and it is not lunatic fringe. And the ironic thing about it is that they are not staving off the aquatic theory to protect a theory of their own, which they've all agreed on, and they love. There's nothing there. They are staving off the aquatic theory to protect a vacuum.
How do they react when I say these things? One very common reaction I've heard about 20 times is, "But it was investigated. They conducted a serious investigation of this at the beginning, when Hardy put forward his article."
I don't believe it. For 35 years I've been looking for any evidence of any incident of that kind, and I've concluded, that that's one of the urban myths. It's never been done. I don't know quite where this diktat comes from.
Somebody up there is issuing the commandment, "Thou shalt not believe in the aquatic theory." And if you hope to make progress in this profession, and you do believe it, you'd better keep it to yourself. Because it will get in your way. So I get the impression that some parts of the scientific establishment are morphing into a kind of priesthood.
But you know, that makes me feel good. Because Richard Dawkins has told us how to treat a priesthood. He says, "Firstly, you've got to refuse to give it all the excessive awe and reverence it's been trained to receive." Right. I'll go along with that. And secondly, he says, "You must never be afraid to rock the boat."
I'll go along with that too."

Towards a Quantum Fluid Mechanical Theory of Turbulence Recent studies of turbulence in superfluid Helium indicate that turbulence in quantum fluids obeys a Kolmogorov scaling law. Such a law was previously attributed to classical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations of motion. It is suggested that turbulence in all fluids is due to quantum fluid mechanical effects. Employing a field theoretical view of the fluid flow velocity, vorticity appears as quantum filamentary strings. This in turn leads directly to the Kolmogorov critical indices for the case of fully developed turbulence.

Milia Margulis Hypothesis on the neutrino nature of ether
IMO it's worth recalling Wittgenstein's remark on the aether subject. "Tell me," he asked a friend, "why do people always say, it was natural for man to assume that the sun went round the earth rather than that the earth was rotating?" His friend replied, "Well, obviously because it just looks as though the Sun is going round the Earth." Wittgenstein replied, "Well, what would it have looked like if it had looked as though the Earth was rotating?"
We can now ask as well: "How the universe would appear if it had looked like being eternal and infinite and the red shift would be a consequence of the dispersion of light at vacuum fluctuations"?
Apparently, many people today aren't willing to even think about it at all, thus effectively behaving in the same shortsighted way, like the opponents of Galileo in his era.

What if space-time packs a (string?) tension, so that gravitational field around any 'mass' forms a well or valley, causing inertia due to the tension?
By the way, Leibniz and Laplace assumed fluid forces and light, disrupted only by Poincare's demonstration of periodicity and chaos in celestial mechanics. So the tradition persisted, and returns from the chaos. Pitkanen dug in on Poincare invariance, and now has a braid algebra and groups, but not yet symmetry reduction.
Supporting Abstract Relational Space-Time as Fundamental without Doctrinism against Emergence The gist is that even while
refusing, physics and philosophy gain more from ether concepts than from plainly refusing them.
Mainstream physics still indeed refuses the aether model, but it doesn't prohibits it to use the aether analogies in popular lectures more and more openly.
Frank Wilczek: A Long View of Particle Physics
Dramatic scientific evidence that all of physical matter is formed by an aether of invisible, conscious energy has existed since at least the 1950s. Compare the article "Causal mechanics - a Russian scientific controversy" from the first issue (page No. 1073)
In dense aether model the gravity is macroscopic effect of 4D space-time curvature, but the inertia is the microscopic effect of tiny density fluctuations of vacuum. When you're moving along curved path, then the intensity in which these fluctuations are hitting you from one side is higher, than from the other side, which keeps you in straight path. This effect is apparently independent on the curvature of space-time and presence of massive bodies in it, so it fits the Machian principle. In dense aether model these density fluctuations are the manifestation of the another dimensions of space-time in similar way, like the Brownian noise at the 2D water surface is the manifestation of hidden dimension of the underwater.
Therefore the model which introduces the fifth dimension into general relativity is the step in the right direction - after all, even Einstein attempted for it for the rest of his life. IMO this guy definitelly knows what he's talking about, when he writes, that the Schrodinger's wave equation can be derived in a classical way from the Mach's principle: "We argue, that a quantum aether is consistent with the principle of relativity and can provide an economical way of having an invariant quantum gravity or Planck scale. We also show that it may change the effective scale at which quantum gravity effects may be observable"

Human brain, Internet & cosmos: Similar laws at work? The causal network representing the large-scale structure of space and time in our accelerating universe is a graph that shows remarkable similarity to many complex networks such as the Internet, social or even biological networks. BTW Universality in Space Plasmas?
This connection is rather trivial in dense aether model, because the dark matter structures are giant density fluctuations of vacuum driven with the same principle of least action, like the effective sharing of information inside of biological or social networks (compare 1, 2, 3).
A complex systems research group applies methods used to study particles to economic bubbles and crashes
If each energy field pervading space is thought of as the surface of a pond, and waves and particles are the turbulence on that surface, then the new evidence strengthens the argument that a vibrant, hidden world lies beneath. Whole the article is about rather old stuff.
Ilja Schmelzer: Neutrinos as pseudo-acoustic ether phonons
Universality: which types of physics qualify as ‘fundamental’? In AWT the universal physics is classical mechanics (the Boltzmann gas particle collision dynamics in particular), which applies to human observer scale and it should be considered least ad-hoced and extrapolated from our everyday experience. It's also most universal and easier to extend into another dimensions. The general relativity and quantum mechanics can be perceived as an applications of it (the physics of very large density gradients inside of particle environment)
According to the philosophical point of view of Einstein, Dirac, Bell, Polyakov, ’t Hooft and few other theorists, there might be some non-material space filling medium enabling the observed physical processes, an Aether, occupying every point in space.
In particular, Gerard 't Hooft conjectured that: “We should not forget that quantum mechanics does not really describe what kind of dynamical phenomena are actually going on, but rather gives us probabilistic results. To me, it seems extremely plausible that any reasonable theory for the dynamics at the Planck scale would lead to processes that are so complicated to describe, that one should expect apparently stochastic fluctuations in any approximation theory describing the effects of all of this at much larger scales. It seems quite reasonable first to try a classical, deterministic theory for the Planck domain. One might speculate then that what we call quantum mechanics today, may be nothing else than an ingenious technique to handle this dynamics statistically..".
And what the Louis deBroglie wrote about his pilot wave theory (he himself refereed to it a "double solution theory")?
"When in 1923-1924 I had my first ideas about Wave Mechanics I was looking for a truly concrete physical image, valid for all particles, of the wave and particle coexistence discovered by Albert Einstein in his "Theory of light quanta". I had no doubt whatsoever about the physical reality of waves and particles."
"This result may be interpreted by noticing that, in the present theory, the particle is defined as a very small region of the wave where the amplitude is very large, and it therefore seems quite natural that the internal motion rythm of the particle should always be the same as that of the wave at the point where the particle is located."
"I called this relation, which determines the particle's motion in the wave, the guidance formula. It may easily be generalized to the case of an external field acting on the particle. Any particle, even isolated, has to be imagined as in continuous "energetic contact" with a hidden medium.."
"The "energetic contact" with a hidden medium is the state of displacement of the aether. If a hidden sub-quantum medium is assumed, knowledge of its nature would seem desirable. It certainly is of quite complex character. It could not serve as a universal reference medium, as this would be contrary to relativity theory. A moving particle has an associated aether wave."
The sub-quantum medium de Broglie is referring to is the aether. It is not a universal reference medium because a universal reference medium is the aether of Lorentz. The sub-quantum medium de Broglie is referring to is the aether of relativity. It is the aether of relativity because the state of the aether of relativity is determined by its connections with the matter and the state of the aether in neighboring places is the state of displacement of the aether.
The quantum vacuum as the origin of the speed of light (preprint, claimed plagiacy of the Quantum Ring Theory, published in 2006 by W. Guglinski)
In the case of the ideal gas, this dimensionful quantity involves the ‘thermal de Broglie wavelength’ of the particles in the gas. And this brings Planck’s constant into the game, even though we’re not doing quantum mechanics: we’re studying the statistical mechanics of a classical ideal gas! That’s weird and interesting...
After all, Max Planck derived his law just by applying thermodynamical statistics of Boltzmann gas to a large system of coupled oscillators before one hundreds of years - so that these guys are sorta reinventing wheel here..
Cosmological Data Hint at a Level of Physics Underlying Quantum Mechanics: Compare the article "Ether returns to oust dark matter " (New Scientist, August 2012). Louis de Broglie was indeed an aetherist too and he stated: "Any particle, even isolated, has to be imagined as in continuous “energetic contact” with a hidden medium". This hypothesis was brought forward some forty years later by Bohm and Vigier, who named this invisible environment the "subquantum medium". It can shown, that the de Broglie waves can be derived as real collective Markov processes on the top of Dirac's aether. So far we already have entropic theory of gravity and quantum mechanics, based on Boltzmann gas concept. We already have water surface models of quantum mechanics. It's just a matter of time, when this model will be exploited geometrodynamically, i.e. not just with steady-state models based on entropic balance. The trend of contemporary physics is therefore quite apparent.

"Think of waves on the surface of water. Here we can describe two entirely different things. Either we may observe how the undulatory surface forming the boundary between water and air alters in the course of time; or else-with the help of small floats, for instance - we can observe how the position of the separate particles of water alters in the course of time. If the existence of such floats for tracking the motion of the particles of a fluid were a fundamental impossibility in physics - if, in fact nothing else whatever were observable than the shape of the space occupied by the water as it varies in time, we should have no ground for the assumption that water consists of movable particles. But all the same we could characterise it as a medium."
"The word 'ether' has extremely negative connotations in theoretical physics because of its past association with opposition to relativity. This is unfortunate because, stripped of these connotations, it rather nicely captures the way most physicists actually think about the vacuum. . . . Relativity actually says nothing about the existence or nonexistence of matter pervading the universe, only that any such matter must have relativistic symmetry. [..] It turns out that such matter exists. About the time relativity was becoming accepted, studies of radioactivity began showing that the empty vacuum of space had spectroscopic structure similar to that of ordinary quantum solids and fluids. Subsequent studies with large particle accelerators have now led us to understand that space is more like a piece of window glass than ideal Newtonian emptiness. It is filled with 'stuff' that is normally transparent but can be made visible by hitting it sufficiently hard to knock out a part. The modern concept of the vacuum of space, confirmed every day by experiment, is a relativistic ether. But we do not call it this because it is taboo." - - Robert B. Laughlin, Nobel Laureate in Physics, endowed chair in physics, Stanford University
"any particle, even isolated, has to be imagined as in continuous “energetic contact” with a hidden medium ... If a hidden sub-quantum medium is assumed, knowledge of its nature would seem desirable. It certainly is of quite complex character. It could not serve as a universal reference medium, as this would be contrary to relativity theory." - Louis de Broglie, Nobel Laureate in Physics
"More careful reflection teaches us however, that the special theory of relativity does not compel us to deny ether. We may assume the existence of an ether; only we must give up ascribing a definite state of motion to it, i.e. we must by abstraction take from it the last mechanical characteristic which Lorentz had still left it... According to the general theory of relativity space without ether is unthinkable; for in such space there not only would be no propagation of light, but also no possibility of existence for standards of space and time (measuring-rods and clocks), nor therefore any space-time intervals in the physical sense." - Albert Einstein, Nobel Laureate in Physics
But all the same we could characterise it as a medium. It may be added that the whole change in the conception of the ether which the special theory of relativity brought about, consisted in taking away from the ether its last mechanical quality, namely, its immobility."
Why bouncing droplets are a pretty good model of quantum mechanics. Ross Anderson: “I think it's potentially one of the most high-impact things I've ever done,” he says, “If we're right, and reality is fluid-mechanical at the deepest level, this changes everything. It consigns string theory and multiple universes to the dustbin.”
Emergent geometry: The duality between gravity and quantum field theory
Analogue gravity review Gravity models are often based on condensed-matter-like approaches in which space-time is a kind of condensate. The background obeys the equation of whatever fluid or material you’ve used.
Wikipedia writes: ..."By analogy to mechanical waves, physicists assumed that electromagnetic waves required a medium for propagation, and hypothesized the aether. Aether was thought to be a fluid which was transparent, non-dispersive, incompressible, continuous, and without viscosity. This idea of an aether has since been rejected by the vast majority of scientists"... End of cite.
So that the superfluid space-time is an 19th century aether by existing encyclopedia and whole definition of it. It's only different name for it, because all properties fit. It's just too slippery for being detected in Michelson-Morley experiment. The 19th century scientists were not aware of superfluidity phenomena, so that they believed, that the aether must be viscous at least a bit. The negative result of M-M experiment was therefore considered as an ultimate refusal of aether. Butfrom 1938 we know, that this state of matter can exist.
Apparently, the superfluous space-time can model the quantum mechanics too. I presume that it's superfluidity arises from the fact, it's in neverending trembling motion like the sand dust mildly shaken inside of vessel. The particles traveling through such an environment indeed lose their energy due to scattering, but they regain this energy back from impacts of aether particles. Analogously, the pilot-wave dynamics of walking droplets works only because the water surface in this experiment is in perpetual vibrations. Once the water undulations stop, the whole system collapses.

We have shown that there exist very physical configurations of an ideal fluid which give rise to solutions of the Einstein equations that correspond asymptotically to negative mass Schwarzschild-de Sitter space times. The energy-momentum tensor that gives rise to such space times is perfectly physical, it every- where satisfies the dominant energy condition. Since the space time is not asymptotically flat, we evade the posi- tive energy theorems which would not allow for negative mass. Negative mass configurations therefore can exist in de Sitter backgrounds..
It's a nice application of dense aether model, after then.. After all, such a "mass" was already observed and it's called the dark matter. The typical property of dark matter is, it's repelled by itself.

Louis de Broglie: Interpretation of quantum mechanics by the double solution theory: "When in 1923-1924 I had my first ideas about Wave Mechanics I was looking for a truly concrete physical image, valid for all particles, of the wave and particle coexistence discovered by Albert Einstein in his "Theory of light quanta". I had no doubt whatsoever about the physical reality of waves and particles....Any particle, even isolated, has to be imagined as in continuous "energetic contact" with a hidden medium. For me, the particle, precisely located in space at every instant ... may be likened in a first approximation, to a moving singularity."

Louis de Broglie, "If a hidden sub-quantum medium is assumed, knowledge of its nature would seem desirable. It certainly is of quite complex character. It could not serve as a universal reference medium, as this would be contrary to relativity theory."
James Clerk Maxwell, "In several parts of this treatise an attempt has been made to explain electromagnetic phenomena by means of mechanical action transmitted from one body to another by means of a medium occupying the space between them. The undulatory theory of light also assumes the existence of a medium. We have now to show that the properties of the electromagnetic medium are identical with those of the luminiferous medium".
Isaac Newton, "Doth not this aethereal medium in passing out of water, glass, crystal, and other compact and dense bodies in empty spaces, grow denser and denser by degrees, and by that means refract the rays of light not in a point, but by bending them gradually in curve lines?"

What is presently postulated as non-baryonic dark matter is aether. Aether has mass. Aether physically occupies three dimensional space. Aether is physically displaced by matter.
Aether displaced by matter pushes back toward the matter. Displaced aether pushing back toward matter is gravity.
